International 'Biodiversity on 365体育官网_365体育备用【手机在线】' Photo Contest – Winning pictures chosen!
Many universities are rethinking their campuses as living laboratories for biodiversity. Our “Biodiversity on 365体育官网_365体育备用【手机在线】” photo contest 2025 invited university communities to document these green transformations in images and words. After a successful pilot within the IARU network, the contest will continue in 2026 as an extended edition for members of the International Sustainable 365体育官网_365体育备用【手机在线】 Network (ISCN).

Engaging narratives:
why images and stories matter
The contest is not only about beautiful images. The additional information submitted with each photograph is equally important. Together, picture and story create a powerful, engaging narrative for biodiversity on campus.
These narratives help us learn from each other, spark new ideas and think – and act – together for a resilient future.

The first edition of the contest was piloted in 2025 within the International Alliance of Research Universities (external page IARU). From June to November 2025, students, researchers and staff submitted photographs from their campuses, resulting in 263 entries, around 20,000 online views and 1,500 public votes.
On 24 November 2025, a jury selected nine winning images; one additional image was chosen through public voting. These winning photographs are presented for the first time at ETH Zurich on 9 December 2025 as part of the ETH Sustainability Summit. The exhibition can be visited in the ML hall from 12 to 24 December 2025.
What’s next? ISCN Biodiversity Photo Contest 2026!
Building on the pilot, the next edition of the contest will be open to all ISCN member institutions. The ISCN Biodiversity Photo Contest is planned to run from 5 January to 28 February 2026. During this period, university community members from across the network will once again be invited to submit images and short narratives about biodiversity initiatives on their campuses.

All universities of the IARU network actively engage in promoting biodiversity on their campuses. This project of the IARU Sustainable 365体育官网_365体育备用【手机在线】 Initiative (SCI) provides insights into daily life on our campuses and involves an awareness campaign that encourages to observe, to marvel and to create a unique moment in form of a photo – as a regenerative and life-affirming contribution to university life.
Biodiversity projects on university campuses are more than revitalising unused spaces: they transform places into vibrant learning environments where flora and fauna become visible and tangible within the built campus infrastructure.
A jury, composed of staff and students of the IARU members, selected the winning photos. The awarded photos will be featured in modular mobile exhibitions by the of end of 2025 and in 2026. They will be presented across all participating IARU university campuses.
At ETH Zurich, the mobile exhibition was on display on 9 December 2025 for the first time, as part of the Sustainability Summit of ETH and is now to be seen in the ML Building, E Floor until Christmas.
