Assistant Professors (Tenure Track) or Professors of Micro- and Nanoengineering

The Department of Mechanical and Process Engineering (D-MAVT, www.mavt.ethz.ch) at ETH Zurich invites applications for the above-mentioned positions at the tenure-track assistant professor or associate/full professor level.

Micro- and nanoscale engineering and fabrication comprise a fundamental and transversal discipline in mechanical and process engineering, translating the state of the art in the micro- and nanosciences to engineer functional devices for real-world applications in industrial and clinical settings. In this context, we seek applicants with outstanding accomplishments and future potential in research and teaching related to micro- and nanoengineering in any domain related to mechanical engineering or chemical and process engineering. We particularly encourage applicants focusing on biomedical technologies for improved diagnostics or therapies; functional or smart material synthesis, integration and characterization; integrated systems; electromechanical, thermal, and fluidic devices; advanced nanomanufacturing; mechanical systems; and/or sustainable technologies. D-MAVT is committed to world-class interdisciplinary and cutting-edge research that spans from the fundamental to the applied. The candidate is expected to establish and extend exchange and interaction with academia, industry, and/or clinics on a national and international level.

Successful candidates should hold a PhD degree or equivalent in engineering or related fields, and have an outstanding international record of accomplishments in micro/nano engineering in academia or industry. Furthermore, a strong motivation and indisputable commitment to undergraduate (in German or English) and graduate (in English) student teaching and the ability to lead a research group are expected.

Assistant professorships have been established to promote the careers of younger scientists. ETH Zurich implements a tenure track system equivalent to that of other top international universities.

ETH Zurich is an equal opportunity and family-friendly employer, values diversity, and is responsive to the needs of dual-career couples.

Please apply online for Professors of Micro- and Nanoengineering

Applications should include a curriculum vitae, a list of publications and projects, three statements on a) research, b) teaching, c) leadership, three key publications, a description of the three most important achievements*, and a certificate of the highest degree. The letter of application should be addressed to the President of ETH Zurich, Prof. Dr. Jo?l Mesot. The closing date for applications is 15 January 2026.

*ETH Zurich emphasizes qualitative assessment of academic accomplishments. This is why you are kindly asked to submit a short description of your three most important achievements (maximum a half page each). Besides research findings, these could also be extraordinary achievements in teaching and its further development, services in the benefit of the academic community or society, software development, patents, knowledge transfer and its practical application, spin-?????off companies or similar.

Please note: For assistant professors, an appointment at an early stage in the career is sought. When comparing the performance of candidates, the respective academic net age as the period since the doctoral examination that was spent for scientific work is taken into account. This period should not exceed eight years at the time of application.
