Personal protective equipment (PPE) and labeling material

The employer provides personal protective equipment (PPE) whenever required for an activity at a study or workplace. The use of PPE is mandatory and an important element of preventive healthcare.
PPE includes:
- Gas masks and particle filter masks
- Gloves
- Head protection
- Hearing protection
- Protective clothing
- Protective footwear? "Schuhbus"
- Rope fastening
- Safety goggles

At numerous workplaces, safety shoes are an important part of the personal protective equipment (PPE). To supply ETH employees with work safety shoes, SSHE has entered into an agreement with Schuhbus GmbH. The shoe bus drives up to the campus once a month during the semester.

What is needed?
If the activities of employees involve one or more of the following listed hazards, then it must be ensured that appropriate footwear is worn, in line with prevention and health protection.
- Mechanical hazards (posed by falling or rolling objects, sharp or sharp-edged objects lying on the floor, nails, metal splinters, shards or when performing special work, e.g. in the forest)
- Thermal hazards (cold, heat, flying sparks, molten metal, welding beads, steam etc.)
- Chemical hazards (acids, bases, solvents, fuels, cleaning products, cooling lubricants etc.)
- Electrical hazards (due to current-conducting work equipment or electric shock during electrostatic discharge, etc.)
- Other hazards (slipping, stumbling, tripping etc.)
Procedure:
- Discuss the need for safety shoes with the superior
- Fill out the Download form for shoe procurement (PDF, 232 KB), print it and have it signed by the supervisor:
- Bring your ETH ID and filled out procurement certificate (form) to the Schuhbus appointment!
- In most cases, the shoes can be taken home after they have been tried on
- Schuhbus will send the bill directly to the supervisor (address in the form)
- Generally, there are no long waiting times, meaning that registration is not necessary
