Degree programmes and departments

With PAKETH, the programme regulations will be structurally harmonised and streamlined. All Bachelor's and Master's degree regulations will be updated for introduction in the Autumn Semester 2027.

Here you will find offers from the Rectorate to support you during the implementation phase of PAKETH:

Develop qualification profiles:

Counselling and support for degree programmes in developing/revising the qualification profile.

Programme regulations:

The Educational Legislation team (AkD) provides counselling on the programme regulations and supplies templates for the new programme regulations - including instructions for use and general factsheets on frequently asked questions relating to the organisation of the degree programmes.

Programme responsibles can find these documents in an external page external folder with restricted access. The collection of documents is continuously being updated.

Implement teaching optimisation:

There is a lot of potential to revise your own degree programme in line with PAKETH in the coordination between the individual courses within one’s degree programme.

Study programs from D-HEST and D-USYS are working together with UTL to coordinate courses in various subject areas. UTL is already using the tried-and-tested approaches in other departments.

Workload planning and monitoring:

How can degree programmes ensure that workload peaks are avoided during the semester?

UTL offers counselling, analyses and support in the coordination between degree programmes and lecturers. You can find more information in the teaching sub-project.

Personal contact:

Current status of the sub-project

9 June 2025:

The fit between service and follow-up courses is currently being reviewed in several degree programmes. On the occasion of Refresh Teaching on 26 June, a brief overview of the selected procedures will be provided.

The Legislation team provides support for questions relating to study structures, legal frameworks, mapping in academic applications and the use of study regulations templates.

“Now that all departments are thinking about their degree programmes at the same time and exchanging ideas with each other via PAKETH, the courage to make big changes is growing.”
Dr Urs Br?ndle, sub-project manager of degree programmes PAKETH, UTL

Procedure and timelines

For degree programmes, the focus is currently on classifying the learning content of the degree programme into categories. The AkD offers support on the legal basis, programme structure and (teaching) application, while UTL provides support on content and didactics.

The qualification profile serves as a framework for the content of this process. If content adjustments are planned for the assigning to the categories, the qualification profile should be revised in advance.

The programme regulations and all annexes (including the qualification profile) must be finally approved by the Department Conferences (DK) by the end of Spring Semester 2026 at the latest.

Best practice: The mapping of the qualification profile in modules starts with its revision. The critical factor is the interplay between content delivery and workload for everyone.

As part of the PAKETH process, it is also worthwhile for degree programmes to consider the requirements that developments in AI will place on future ETH graduates.

UTL's  booster workshop "GenAI in teaching and learning" can support you in this process with up-to-date information and experiences from other degree programmes.
