Allocation process
Exchange places are allocated in a defined procedure among qualified students during the main application phase.
Process
Up to 10 partner universities (priorities) can be indicated in the main application phase. All places are allocated via a "lottery" (randomised selection). This ensures that all eligible students have an equal chance of obtaining a place.
- Each application is assigned a randomly generated number.
- The system goes through the applications in ascending order based on these numbers.
- For each application, the system first checks whether the first priority can be allocated. If this is not possible, the system moves on to the next priority, continuing this process until a place can be allocated or no further priorities remain.
Applications from students who have already completed an exchange semester (excluding Project or traineeship abroad and Other mobility types) will only be considered after all first-time applicants have been allocated according to their priorities. Please note the Tips for a successful application for increasing your chances of getting an exchange spot
If no priority can be assigned, you may have the opportunity to apply later for free places at other partner universities.
Binding nature
Your application is binding for all selected priorities. If you withdraw without sufficient reasons, the Student Exchange Office reserves the right to exclude you from its programmes in the future. Examples of sufficient reasons are: Illness, accident, massive drop in performance during studies.
